 I know a lot of L&D RNs who get their doula certification - the training is very different from nursing and can compliment a lot of what you know.  But even if you don't do a doula course start reading as much about doula care, homebirth, and other good texts as you can because they will benefit you tons in all of it.  ...

 Have you spoken to the midwife at that birth?  She may have some excellent suggestions for you, tailored for your location, or even be willing to help you herself.  Also, consider getting trained as a doula during the time between now and grad school.  The training in supporting women through unmedicated birth is invaluable ...
