  • Induction for deceased baby

Hello, my friend sadly found out that her unborn baby, aged 23 weeks or so now, has trisomy 13 and is very ill. The doctors have said that he will probably pass away in the coming weeks, and then if she doesn't start labour on her own, they will induce. I would like to know if there are natural induction methods ...

  • Re: Persistant sleepiness in baby

The baby wakes himself and cries until she nurses him again, but he falls back asleep after 5 min at the breast. So she tries to undress him, wipe with a cold cloth, change him, etc to try to get him to keep on nursing. The longest he has ever slept was a 3 hour stretch, during the day, and after a bottle of formula. Brln, sorry I ...

  • Persistant sleepiness in baby

Here's the situation: Baby is almost 1 month old, very sleepy baby since birth. Had jaundice. This is the lady's 2nd baby, and she also had troubles b-f her first, weaned him at 6 weeks. This baby will only breastfeed for 5 minutes max at a time and then fall asleep. He wakes to feed 45 minutes later. Mom is giving formula to top him off, ...

  • Re: What to do if....

Thanks for the responses :) Marlene, I haven't had the baby yet, I hit 37 weeks today!!! So, anytime I guess ;) My midwife and I have gone over the what to do's more thoroughly now, and with my husband there. I don't know if it's just my brain cuz of pregnancy or what, but I felt as if I wasn't really grasping the plan ...

  • Re: Attitudes towards breastfeeding

Well, I really walked into a hornet's nest without knowing it with those ladies! I apologized that they were offended and also mentioned that it would have been better if we had been face-to-face and they could hear my tone, and I could hear theirs. As far as it depends on me, I try to live in peace with all people, so this was all so ...

  • Re: What to do if....

Thank you Brln for your lengthy response - so much great info! I'm going to go over it a few times, preparing in my mind what I would do in various scenarios. I am also going to ask around about getting some of that emergency stuff!  I also plan to discuss this carefully with my midwife and hopefully my brain will be working ...

  • Re: Male Doula

When I was taking my doula course there was a man in the group also. His wife had recently given birth (though it ended in a c-section, if I remember correctly), and he was a professional massage therapist. He had been asked by good friends of theirs to do massage during labour, and he wanted to get more of an insight into birthing so ...
  • What to do if....

Hello all! I have just reached the 36 week mark of my pregnancy and we are planning a homebirth with a midwife. However I live at least 45 minutes from the midwife, and 20 minutes from my doula/midwife-in-training, and I tend to birth very quickly. Because the chance of me birthing before the midwife arrives is a very real ...
