  • Re: Belief in mother's diet affecting babies?

The reason I ask is I've never seen anything to support the belief through studies.  It's a slippery slope, to believe things that are told to us and only disregard them when they're proven not true.  We should never hold truth to things that don't have a basis in evidence.  There are some minor exceptions to this ...

  • Belief in mother's diet affecting babies?

Is there any good, solid evidence to show that what a mother consumes directly affects her baby via breastmilk?  I see so many women fret over their "fussy" babies, cutting out dairy, wheat, citrus, etc., assuming that it's what they're eating. I am not finding good resources on this to reveal it's validity. ...

  • Re: charting

I have chart forms that I've made from different sources from time to time...I'd be willing to share them here - just need to get them all into a pdf. I have individual pressboard folders for each of my clients.  It's easy to organize (I usually use the ones with one file separator in them) and I think it looks professional when ...

  • Re: Prenatal Vitamins

I don't recommend prenatal vitamins, but there seems to be this thought that the minute you get pregnant you run out and buy a bottle of PNV and a copy of What to Expect.   This idea that you will have a healthier baby by taking PNV is interesting.  Especially since we barely absorb most vitamin supplements.   Food sources ...

  • Re: Diva Cup

I started with a Keeper, loved it, but switched because of irritation.  I have a Diva Cup now and it's nice, but I miss the firmness of the Keeper. My cervix is low and I don't have an issue with it.   I make sure that the opening of the cup is around the cervix - you shouldn't be able to feel your cervix anywhere around the ...

  • Re: oven sterilization Q

For the folding of the surgical towels, I just lay out all the instruments in the middle or the end of the open towel.  Then I bring down the top fold to the middle, then the bottom fold up, and roll them to the end.  I do the same with the second towel.

  • Re: A question on money!

In the Pacific NW, midwives charge on average between $2000 and $4000.   I charge $3500, but have reduced fee discounts for early payments ($2400 - 2800).  By setting my fees at this particular level, I'm able to adequately take on many very low-cost or free births without compromising my need to support my family. I think that ...

yeah, i use surgical towels - and like them a lot.  I use two towels for each instrument pack.  i find that they're less noisy to unwrap during birth.  :)

  • Re: I need Information

The size of the woman does NOT reflect how she will birth.   NO NO NO NO NO I've had women your size in my practice deliver 8 to 10lb babies.  Vaginally.  It definitely sounds like there was something up with your baby's position, your position (likely on your back or sitting on your tailbone) or the time frame given to ...

  • Re: Membrane Sweep

I've definitely had clients ask me for a stretch & sweep at their due date or beyond.  I think that honoring any woman's CHOICE is key in my opinion. However, what happens within the medical model is not about choice.  It's about routine vaginal exams in the last month of pregnancy that usually results in a vigorous ...
