Today I had orientation at the hospital where I have started work for a Caesarian birth. In theatre I had to scrub and don a gown and put sterile file gloves on ready to receive the baby before getting the receiving drape. I have never had to do this before at other hospitals I have worked. I found it awkward and challenging and prevented me being with the woman. What I am used too is the sterile gloves then being draped with the receiving drape just before babies birth. Is it normal practice fork wives to srub, gown up, don sterile gloves and then get the receiving drape? I am not a theatre nurse and this all seemed foreign to me and prevented contact between me and the woman. I am not use to this practice, is it common and necessary? It just felt wrong on every level to me.
