I'm pretty sure that they'll fall under pharmaceuticals that need to be "signed off" by a doctor/ob.
Midwives in the UK actually are able to prescribe some medicines within a hospital setting, not sure what the remit is for independent midwives however.
The drugs that UK midwives can prescribe have to come from an approved list and that includes:
antiseptics, aperients, sedatives and analgesics, local anaesthetic, oxytocic prep and approved agents for maternal and neonatal resus.
So, no birth control.
I agree though, it's all wrapped up in part of the same package as birth.
