    Studying in other countries?

I live in Illinois, and have since I was born. This state isn't very friendly to midwives, so I am in a normal university. I am discontent with college right now (I have taken a few years off, not to mention transferring twice.) I can't bring myself to settle on doing something other than midwifery. I have done tons of research on programs in the US, but I really want to move out of this country. I am currently doing research on programs in other countries - I have mainly been looking at New Zealand and England. Has anyone studied midwifery abroad? Heard stories?

Do you have any ideas as to which countries are the best to study in?

Is it ever possible to apply those degrees for certification in the United States? (I doubt as a CNM, but possibly as a CPM?)

    Thanks!

Canada has few nice programs. It brings you to become an autonomous midwife. They are direct entry program within universities. Ontario, British-Colombia, Manitoba have good and well-recognized programs. In Ontario  the universities offering the pogram are: McMaster, Ryerson and Laurentian. In British-Colombia, it is University of British-Colombia (UBC) and in Manitoba, University College of the North
(UCN). I am from Quebec, studying midwifery there, but it is only offer in French here.

Here are the universities' websites and program descriptions:

I think this is funny.  I live in Ontario where two of those universities are available to me from home and I have chosen to enrole in the MCU distance program.  I don't know about the other programs, but the Ontario one seems to be becoming more medical every day.

I did not study in England, but I practiced there for a while. I think they have some good programmes there. You might want to look into e.g. King's College Hospital, London, or Bournemouth University. Good Luck! Nina
