Losing mucous plug at 12 weeks, meaning?

Yesterday I didn't feel well, had body pain. Cramping from diarrhea, a slight fever, chills. I went pee, and when I wiped a large glob of pink tinged mucous plug came out. I felt a discomfort in my cervix, like I've had in previous pregnancies. I laid down, then I started feeling tightening, a few consecutive contractions. That's when my fever started, after I layed down.

I had a loss last year, and couldnt stand the thought of not knowing if the baby was alive or not. So we went to the ER, I refused the internal exam and got an ultrasound. Baby looked very healthy and active, yay! However, I'm concerned something undesirable may happen. They gave me a urine/blood test, both came back fine.

My initial thought is the mucous plug will regenerate, I'll be fine. However, why is it still coming out? What is that a sign of?

    Thanks!

Sorry, to read about your situation here.  Good for you saying no to the internal exam that they wanted perform on you.  Unsure what to recommend to you on this.

Are you under the care of a midwife?  Do you think you have a virus?  Best bet right now is to talk to your care provider, stay super hydrated, lower your fever, and rest.

I had some strange and frequent tightenings towards the end of my first trimester too (in fact it was right around 12 weeks also).  I also had the wierd cervical sensations and a bearing down feeling in my lower pelvis, like my womb was pushing downwards.  I was really worried, especially because I was also having a lower backache during one of these episodes.  No bleeding, though.  I also got checked out and the baby was great and my cervix was long and closed.  Later on, once I didn't really need it anymore (go figure), I was reading about homeopathic Sepia.  It seems to be good for women who experience such bearing down sensations.  I wonder if Sepia would have helped (available at healthfood stores in low and medium potencies).

    Here is some info:

Another thought, did they check your urine for infection or just hcg?  Could you have a UTI causing the cramping and fever?

I really hope you feel better.  Keep us posted.

Well today I felt a lot better than yesterday, no fever so far today. I just got over a head cold that lasted 2 weeks. The ER guessed I still had a virus, and I sure hope they checked for a UTI because I'm prone to them. I just assumed they would do the logical thing and check for the UTI, now I wonder?

I'm going to an OB since I cannot afford to pay $350 a month to pay for the midwife, I've just accepted I'll never have a midwife like I've wanted. However the OB I'm going to, works with the midwife providing ultrasounds for the midwifes clients. Funny how that works out.

It relieved me to no end, reading you experienced nearly the same with your pregnancy. Thank you so much! I'll read into Sepia, I love finding a reason to go to the Health Food Store lol

My next appt is on the 24th, I'm not sure if I'll go in before then. I'm not keen on calling anyone unless there are obvious signs something is wrong. I know the drill after two difficult pregnancies and loss, that is until I'm at least 20 weeks when the baby is "viable". THEN someone will care, I hope lol

I spoke with an amazing midwife in Los Angeles, she's just too far for how quickly I birth. Otherwise, it would have been a great match. There are also two midwifes in Sacramento, that would be with me. But dragging my family hours away, perhaps for a few weeks sounds awful. Then having to drive with 4 children, one a newborn 5 hours back home sounds horrendous. I have great comfort knowing I'm within 20 minutes of home, since its my favorite place.

Thanks for caring, & give your little babe a kiss :)
