Midwifery Today Community

Hello-

I am a senior biomedical engineering student at the University of Michigan. I spent the summer researching in maternal and neonatal healthcare in Ghana, and will be spending the upcoming year on my senior design project working on a vacuum extraction device for resource limited settings.

At this point in our design process, we are looking for feedback from obstetricians and midwives to help inform our project. We have a short (less than five minute) survey, and we would greatly appreciate any feedback that we can get.

The link should be up and running now.  You should be able to input the numbers from 1-7 on the first page, and then proceed from there.  Thank you for letting me know it wasn't working, but it should be good now.

You know Susan, as someone who practiced jungle midwifery in areas with no electricity and hours away from a hospital I can understand the desire for a device like this.  In case of of maternal exhaustion that may lead to fetal or maternal death a manual device to help baby's descent and birth could be invaluable.  I do not see it for homebirth in America.  I can see it's application being helpful and potentially life saving in some situations and settings.

I'm not sure why it is giving you a hard time.  It has been collecting information from other people without a problem.  It could possibly be the internet browser you are using (Internet explorer, firefox, safari, etc).  If you have a different browser on your computer, maybe try opening the link up there.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

 April, i was having a hard time withit as well, I was answering each question ranked 1-7....but you have to ORDER them in priority......example, most important (1) manually generated  least important (7) fitting different head sizes......the rest will fall second, third, fourth etc priority. Don't know if that's what you're doing but it was what *I* was doing wrong!

Yes, I can see where something like this could be useful in situations where surgical assisstance was not close by.....have you seen the anti-hemmorrhage garment? Amazing!

This is amazing...the woman in the video arrived at the hospital after birthing her 9th child at home and suffering PPH, she was so exsanguinated they couldn't read her blood pressure or find a vein.
