Decrease Costs of Health Care with Midwifery Care

I know how to cut costs in ways that no one seems to have discussed at the federal level. Healthy natural birth is the foundation for lifelong health. Obesity, Type 2 diabetes, breast cancer and potential heart disease are among the many conditions that are preventable or are greatly lessened by normal birth and breastfeeding.

Let’s quit blaming the victim for a poor beginning to his or her life. We need a national impetus to fix our unhealthy start to life for babies and their mothers. The use of midwives or doctors trained in facilitating normal birth and breastfeeding could save billions of dollars immediately. It would also save billions of dollars in long term medical costs for people who become ill because of the effects of these iatrogenic (doctor-caused) problems. Even though we are all doing our part in this effort we need federal action, otherwise we will not be able to afford the cost of healthcare, period.
